Innovation Factory (5)
The Innovation Factory is a hub for ingenuity devoted to generating sustainable products, businesses, jobs and professionals. We facilitate innovative product ideas through a design development process developed for the purpose of creating fully functional prototypes optimized for manufacturability, efficiency, durability, and profitability. We also promote STEM education in schools as well as continuing education in the workforce.
The Innovation Factory is a facilitator of design services and resources for our clients. This means that our clients are always in control of their intellectual property and make the final decisions that impact the product’s design. The sequential steps of our product development process allow our
clients to create a fully-functional prototype of their idea. The client can then showcase their prototype to manufacturers, retailers, or investors.
Or they may use the prototype as their first step toward creating their own company and market the product directly to consumers.
We will not disclose your idea without your expressed written permission and if the idea meets our criteria, we will develop a Product Development agreement. The Innovation Factory respects the value of your intellectual property and will consider signing a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) to
facilitate your engagement with us.
Quirky is product design firm that relies on crowd-sourcing for ideas and feedback. As an inventor, you can upload your idea to their site as a pitch but it becomes public for their users to rate and comment on for the next month. From there, if it has gotten enough positive feedback they will develop the idea into a product in-house and will pay you in royalties if the product gets to market.
With Quirky, there are no non-disclosure agreements and if they don’t elect to move forward with your idea, it was still on their public site for all to see.
Kickstarter is a means of collecting funds for projects. Their rules are very specific to protect themselves as well as the “backers” that visit the site. You must spell out exactly what you are trying to fund and the project must have a definitive end.
Therefore, you must have a finished design with a functioning prototype and you must specify that you are trying to fund a production run of a specified number of units.
No matter what phase your idea is at, we can help. All the way from the napkin sketch to the final production model. We do product design, CAD, prototyping and more. Contact us and we can figure out together what you need to get your product idea made into a product.
We are located in TechTown which is located on the Wayne State University Detroit campus.
